KANEIE (ACTIVE 16TH CENTURY)

A Mino tanto with mounts
Muromachi period (1333-1573), 16th century
Hirazukuri, iorimune forged in masame hada with some mokume hada in jinie, the nioi-based suguha tempered edge with a small, round boshi, the machi-okuri tang with one hole, indistinct file marks and signed Kaneie, 8 1/8in (20.6cm) long, with a two-piece silver- and gold-foil habaki, in a wood shirasaya storage scabbard
The 19th-century aikuchi goshirae comprising a black-lacquer saya decorated with family crests on scrolling vines in two shades of gold lacquer, the tsuka of bare same fitted with gilt-copper menuki formed as butterflies

With Hozon Token (Sword Worthy of Preservation) certificate no. 304209 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japan Art Sword), dated August 28, 2020
