International Director
岸朱 爪哇 印度尼西亞 十世紀晚期/十一世紀 菩薩銅像
This finely cast bodhisattva wields a vajra suspended before his chest, hovering just above the middle finger of his right hand. He would have joined the outer section of a three-dimensional mandala, for which at least two Vajradhatu Mandala's from Java are known. The casting follows the Nganjuk style of East Java in the late 10th and 11th centuries. These figures have long thin bodies, strong faces, delicate jewelry, and tall crowns. The sculpture almost certainly derives from the same Vajradhatu mandala as four Nganjuk bodhisattvas held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (1987.142.5, .7, .8 & .9).
