This charming preparatory drawing shows the Goddess in her aspect of Sarasvati being venerated by the gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The group to the right represent various sadhus in obeisance and her vehicle, the stork, holds a prominent position in the foreground
Compare the treatment of the crowns and the reserved but energetic line employed by Manaku in an earlier Bhagavata Purana series (Goswamy & Fischer, Pahari Masters, 1997, p.262, no.109. Also compare a composition of Shiva and Parvati from the Jordan Barry Collection (Sotheby's, New York, 20 March 2001, lot 14) and a closely related composition of the adoration of Durga, sold at Bonhams, New York, 17 September 2014, lot 129.
