International Director
This classic, vibrant, and densely packed composition favored in Bundi and Kotah, places a great deal of emphasis on elaborate architecture and wild foliage to frame the protagonists. The two lovers look the picture of romance, staring into each other's eyes, and one could be forgiven for thinking that the movement created by the artist's preparatory sketch makes it seem as if the couple are waltzing under the moonlit monsoon.
For a closely related, earlier composition of embracing lovers arriving at a bedchamber from Kotah, circa 1660, see Cleveland Beach, Rajput Paintings at Bundi and Kotah, 1973, pl.LIX, fig.62.
