TRANS-ATLANTIC AIR MAIL: 1919.

FIRST DIRIGIBLE TO MAKE EAST-WEST FLIGHT ACROSS ATLANTIC.
Flown cover, 106 x 138 mm, with multiple postmarks from New York and London, July 13-September 27, 1919, with note stating: "Via British Dirigible R34," addressed to "Mr. Francis Clark Clements / General Delivery / General Post Office / London, England."

The British R34 airship was the first dirigible to make the east-west Trans-Atlantic flight on July 2-6, 1919. The present cover appears to have been flown on the return flight a few days later and subsequently lost in the British postal system due to an incorrect address.
