ZEPPELIN, FERDINAND VON, COUNT.

SIGNED PHOTO HAND-CARRIED ON ZEPPELIN FLIGHT.
Photographic postcard Signed ("F. Zeppelin"), silver gelatin print, 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches, depicting an unidentified tethered Zeppelin dirigible in an open field with a crowd below.
Provenance: Thomas Scott Baldwin (autograph note).

A penned note below the dirigible in the image states: "I carried this card on flight arranged by Count Zeppelin May, 1914 / Thomas S. Baldwin."
Baldwin was the first American to descend from a balloon by parachute and had designed dirigibles of his own as well as airplanes and balloons. He served during World War I and then worked with Goodyear after the war designing airships.
