BALLOON MAIL: 1905

ENGLISH CHANNEL CROSSING.
Photographic postcard, 88 x 136 mm, silver gelatin print, with Folkestone and Calais postmarks, Depicts Jacques Faure with his dog Dirigible, his cousin Hubert Latham possibly to the left, The group is standing by a large tube in an open field. A note on the verso states the photo was taken the morning of April 5, 1905. Faure here inscribes in the margin and partly over the image: "bien des cendres pres A[?] / Jacques Faure / 7, April 1905."
Faurer was a founding member of the French Aero Club. This was the second time he crossed the English Channel. His aviator cousin Hubert Latham accompanied him. A rare piece of balloon mail as only a handful are know, this example signed by the balloonist.
