MONTGOLFIER, JACQUES-ETIENNE. 1745-1799.

Autograph Letter, 3 pp recto and verso, 4to (conjoining leaves), Annonay, August 1, 1787 ,with integral autograph address leaf addressed to M. Boissy d'Anglas, mild toning and creasing, with original red wax seal, small loss to right margin of 2nd leaf from seal.
A warm letter to a friend thanking him for his help negotiating a proposed tax on paper products (the Montgolfier fortune was founded on the manufacture of paper), and expressing his fears that the new papier timbre will be subject to the same abuses as the papier marque at the hands of unscrupulous tax collectors.
