First recorded by the Spanish in 1576, the huge fall of Campo del Cielo (Valley of the Sky) iron-nickel meteorites occurred thousands of years ago in Argentina. The present specimen boasts an aesthetic shape, its surface covered with many distinctive regmaglypts (thumbprints) which formed when the meteor passed through Earth's atmosphere causing the troilite in the meteorite to melt. An excellent desk top example of an iron-nickel meteorite. Weighing approximately 5.5 lbs and measuring 4 1/2 x 4 x 2 1/2 in
