Large Leaf, with Ant, in Burmite Amber

Indeterminate species
Cretaceous
Hukawng Valley, Myanmar (Burma)

Most amber that is over 90 million years old is cloudy and brittle, but some of the best quality amber is found in the 100-million-year-old Hukawng Valley of Myanmar. The present honey colored Burmite amber specimen displays a nicely detailed red leaf, preserving some of its original red or red-brown color. Also seen is an ant specimen. Leaf measuring approximately 25mm; Amber measuring 43 x 32mm
