Red Iridescent Ammonite
Placenticeras costatum
70,000,000 million years ago
Bearpaw Formation, Alberta, Canada
Collected during the summer of 2013, this is a very beautiful iridescent ammonite with very good shape and areas of vivid colors on both sides as well as a "whorl" to the center. It displays spectacularly and boasts bright colors throughout including red, orange, gold, green and hints of rare blue and purple. The degree to which it is compressed shows that the specimen went through a rapid burial. With its intact nacre, this ammonite has all the characteristics of why colorful Canadian ammonites are considered precious. Diameter: 13 in (33 cm). Weighing approximately 1.8 kg
