Dulcote "Potato" Very Large Agate Half Nodule
Dulcote Quarry, Wells, Mendip, Somerset, England, United Kingdom
This is a fine natural agate from the now closed and defunct Dulcote Quarry in Somerset. "Potato Stone" is the common name for these these in the mineral hobby. Agates form in nodules and one can understand the appellation of "potato" due to the shape. The present example has been cut and the face polished to reveal the concentric banding with bright red. Measuring 7.1 x 6.7 x 2.6 in (18 x 17 x 6.5 cm)
