Ivana Cella (1932-2020)
Originally a native of Rome, Italy, jewelry designer Ivana Cella discovered fossilized shark's teeth on the beach near her home in Jacksonville, Florida. She created a line of jewelry incorporating these 100,000-year-old teeth which, during the fossilization process, became imbued with exotic colors of green-black, tan or brown, taking on the color of the substances and minerals nearby.
Ivana combined these exotic teeth with coral and enameled accents and a lavish use of substantial 18K gold fittings. This combination was a reflection of both her Italian background and indicative of the 1970s era during which time these jewels were designed when gold was substantially less expense. Her line of jewelry was at that time carried by Bloomingdale's and Cartier in New York. Bonhams is honored to sell the remainder inventory of Ivana Cella.
