Footnotes

Provenance
Mr and Mrs John Howell Collection (saucer)
Gordon and Lorna Turner Collection

John Howell illustrates the 'Woman and Squirrel' saucer next to an example with a different border in his paper, Transfer-printed Lowestoft Porcelain, ECC Trans, Vol.7, Pt.3 (1970), pl.187c.

The pattern printed on the milk jug does not appear to be listed by Howell and both main and subsidiary prints themselves seems to rather poorly complement the shape of the jug, perhaps explaining its rarity. A teabowl with very similar decoration from the E F Broderip Collection is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum (accession no. C.388-1924).
