Footnotes

Provenance
Gordon and Lorna Turner Collection

Listed by Geoffrey Godden, Lowestoft Porcelains (1985), p.233, D.161 and illustrated by John Howell, Lowestoft Porcelain: The Final Decade, ECC Trans, Vol.17, Pt.3 (2001), p.334, fig.7. Possibly made as a christening mug for Margaret Hodson, the demand for commemorative porcelain decorated in underglaze blue seemingly continued into the last decade of production at Lowestoft, despite the concurrent popularity of polychrome pieces. See lot 422 in this sale for a polychrome mug dated a year later than the present lot.
