A Lowestoft tureen, cover and stand, circa 1760-65

Of oval form, crisply moulded with a wide band of vertical ribs, the cover with finial modelled as a songbird perched on a stump, the border with flowerheads and scrollwork left in the white against a blue ground, the centre of the stand with a boy in a Chinese landscape, a large flowerhead inside the tureen and small sprigs around the footrim, stand 18.2cm diam, painter's numeral 6 inside footrim of stand and to underside of cover (3)

A similar tureen, cover and stand from the Geoffrey Godden Collection was sold by Bonhams, 30 June 2010, lot 127. The same shape of tureen also occurs with a globular finial and the ribbing running across the cover, see Sheenah Smith, Lowestoft Porcelain in Norwich Castle Museum, Vol.1 (1975), pl.36, no.634. A stand was sold by Bonhams on 23 June 2021, lot 207.
