A façon de Venise serpent-stemmed winged wine glass, 17th century

The generous conical bowl on a wide collar, the elaborate stem formed from an entwined rope containing opaque white spiral threads, with finely pincered 'wings' on either side in bright transparent turquoise glass, all raised on a plain stem section with a basal knop above a delicate plain conical foot, 26.6cm high

A very similar glass in the Kunstgewerbemuseum, Cologne, is illustrated by Brigitte Klesse in the catalogue, Glas (1963), p.108, no.218. Two serpent-stemmed wine glasses with bowls of similar shape were sold by Bonhams on 5 June 2019, lot 9 and 10.
