Taweret was a hybrid goddess combining the features of the hippopotamus, lion and crocodile that embodied her qualities of fierce protection. For a flat-backed example with similar textured details in the British Museum cf. C. Andrews, Amulets of Ancient Egypt, The British Museum, 1994, pl. 39a.
