Footnotes

The present collection of theatre and film scripts provide a unique record of Diana Rigg's exceptional and extensive acting career, over the course of seven decades. From theatre productions from the age of 20 to her Tony-nominated role in 2018 My Fair Lady, Rigg's career spanned the stage and screen, in action, comedies, drama and musicals.

The scripts include personal favourites of Diana's such as Pygmalion (Rigg featured in three separate productions of this play), and influential works like The Devils, which inspired Ken Russell's film of the same name.

Selected written musings by Diana include: in The Misanthrope, 'Remember Ceilmene's history – Everyone is a potential victim in the theatre'; in Pygmalion, 'Mustn't have the slightest hint that Eliza can manage by herself – do not signal act II'; in Mother Courage's monologue, 'DON'T GABBLE'; in Phaedra Britannica, 'The fast is too fast, the slow is never slow enough, bolder with accelerations, highs & lows, 1st half too bold, brisk, not gentle enough'; on the role of Cleopatra 'Remember she is joyously going towards death'.
