Diana Rigg considered Medea to be the most important theatrical performance of her career. Her second collaboration with Jonathan Kent, Diana saw Medea as her greatest triumph - putting the Greek tragedian Euripides' name up in lights on Broadway.
Following a successful Almeida and UK touring production, Diana played the title role of 'Medea' at the Wyndham's Theatre in the West End, from the 13th October 1993 to the 26th February 1994. The present script contains extensive annotations by Rigg, displaying the inner workings of how she constructed her performance. Celebrated for her chilling portrayal of the vengeful royal, one contemporary review wrote of how Rigg 'magnificently communicates the fierce, touchy pride of an alien who would rather bring down everything than tolerate the scorn of those she hates'.
