Provenance:
A Private Swiss Collection of 19th century Meissen

Based on the centrepiece ordered by Frederick the Great in April 1761 for a large table service of 'preussisch-musikalische Dessin, which was subsequently given to one of his favourite generals, Hans-Joachim von Ziethen; parts of the centrepiece were in the von Klemperer Collection, Dresden (destroyed in WWII, the fragments sold in these Rooms, 8 December 2010, lot 69). The original was surmounted by a basket rather than a candelabrum. The same model was also used for a similar service for Frederick with red instead of green borders, of which part of the centrepiece is in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (see S. Wittwer, 'Hat der König von Preßen die schleunige Verferttigung verschiedener Bestellungen ernstlich begehret', in Keramos 2018 (2010), pp. 51ff. and ill. 51 for the centrepiece in the V & A).
