Footnotes

In 1777, Catherine the Great commissioned the Francis Gardner Factory to produce services for the more important Imperial Orders, such as, St. George, St. Andrew, St. Alexander Nevskii, and St. Vladimir. These pieces were decorated with badges, ribbons, and stars that represented these Orders for their respective Saint's Feast Days in the Winter Palace for the knights of each order. However, the services were so well liked that Catherine II requested another St. Vladimir service for the Order of 140 knights. The commission was placed in 1783 and took two years to complete.

Another plate from this service was most recently sold at Bonhams Los Angeles, 27 April 2021, lot 215
