Footnotes

Provenance:
Property from the Collection of Dr. Johannes Ralph Lafrenz

The saucer model and a lobed teabowl shape were both introduced at the factory as early as 1753, but the cup does not appear until later with known examples dating to 1764, such as the present lot (Rosalind Savill, The Wallace Collection Catalogue of Sèvres Porcelain (1988), Vol II, pp.560f, no. C373). The shape and decoration were later copied at Worcester, an example of which can be seen in the collection of the V&A, London (414:657/&A-1885).
