This GMC DUKW model 353 2.5 ton 6 X 6 amphibious troop carrier was manufactured by General Motors in 1943 and was delivered to the British armed forces in June of that year. It served the 19 Amphibious Squadron of the Royal Corps of Transport but unfortunately there is no record of its war time involvement with the D Day landings. A rare survivor, it transferred to the Royal Corps of Transport Museum in the early 1970s.

The DUKW was held as part of a collection at the School of Mechanical Transport in Leconfield and remained the property of the Ministry of Defence. The collection was loaned to the Museum of Army Transport in Beverley, Yorkshire where the DUKW was displayed and kept in running condition until the museum's closure in 2003. The DUKW remained running until it was moved to be on Museum display when the fuel was drained, thus it will require some recommissioning before it is ready to return to 'active service'. It comes with considerable history including a report on its original specifications and its Vehicle Data Card, detailing its movements and commissions and represents a great opportunity to obtain an exciting military vehicle with many uses.
