A Morion In North Italian 'Spanish' Style Of The Late 16th Century
19th Century

Of steel and made in two pieces, with tall almond-shaped skull rising to a bent-over stalk, the base encircled by dome-headed rivets on brass flower-head shaped washers, and against an etched band of repeated foliage, narrow downturned brim curving up fore and aft, etched with foliate scrollwork and with recessed turned and roped border, the skull etched respectively on both sides with a Classical male and female figure in an oval centred on male and female demi-figures between a flaming urn and cornucopia above, and coiled serpents below, the edges either side with symmetrical foliage inhabited by pairs of bearded male profile heads and eagle-heads
