A Rare Mahogany Gunpowder Magazine
By Joseph Lang, Gun & Pistol Warehouse, 7 Hay Market, London, Circa 1850

Originally lined in green baize and fitted for gunpowder canisters, the interior of the lid with maker's trade label for circa 1825-52, the exterior with circular vacant brass escutcheon centred on a flush-fitting brass carrying handle; together with a later key (2)

Joseph 1 Lang is recorded at 7 Haymarket between 1825 and 1852. The business became Joseph Lang & Sons eventually amalgamating with Stephen Grant, and are credited with popularising the pin-fire breech-loader. Lang died in 1869
