London Silver Hallmarks For 1749, Maker's Mark, Probably Of John Rowe

With curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and retaining traces of etched decoration on both sides of the forte, hilt cast and chased in relief with shells and foliage against finely punched grounds, centred on a 'Green Man's' mask on the downbent shell-guard, at the centre of the knuckle-guard and on the back of the pommel, the latter with button and extending down the back of the grip, quillon-block with a lion-mask on each side, rear quillon formed as a human head, and natural buckhorn grip
