An 1827 Pattern Naval Officer's Sword
Retailed By Batton & Adams, Outfitters, Devonport, Mid-19th Century

With fullered double-edged blade (some wear and old pitting) etched with symmetrical foliage over each side framing the royal arms on one side and a crowned fouled anchor on the other, the ricasso with retailer's details on one side and 'proved' mark centred on an etched star on the other, regulation gilt-brass hilt of simulated bars incorporating a crowned fouled anchor in an oval, hinged side-guard acting against a spring, lion-head pommel and back-piece in one, wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, and later bullion sword-knot, in original black leather scabbard with linear engraved brass mounts retaining traces of gilding, and two rings for suspension
