A Turkish 50-Bore Miquelet-Lock Short Rifle (Shishana)
Late 18th Century

With slightly swamped octagonal sighted barrel of finely twist damascus pattern rifled with seven grooves and encrusted with engraved gold foliage around the silver fore-sight and maker's stamp on the top flat towards the breech, arched single aperture back-sight, tang and characteristic lock all decorated en suite within beaded borders, the latter with petalled maker's stamp and with two spherical silver terminals, figured Circassian walnut full stock inlaid along the fore-stock with shaped green-stained bone panels enriched with small roundels of brass and dark horn, and brass nails, the area around the tang inlaid en suite, the central fleur-de-lys shaped panel left unstained, segmented tapering faceted butt also inlaid en suite and with dark horn butt-plate (butt terminal missing), six shaped silver barrel bands each engraved with lines of foliage on the top flats, gold-encrusted button trigger, green-stained fore-end cap inlaid with small roundels, and original steel ramrod
