A Brescian 40-Bore Wheel-Lock Pistol
Early 17th Century

With octagonal barrel incised 'LAZARINO COMINAZO' between stamped marks along the top flat and with moulded ramp at the rear, the bottom flat at the breech stamped with barrelsmith's mark 'M', a star above, plain tang, shaped flat lock with slender wheel-retaining bracket and pan each retained by two screws, the latter with pan-cover acting against a spring, figured full stock with flared butt of hexagonal section, the former inlaid with steel rosettes and panels (one incomplete) pierced and engraved with symmetrical designs of scrolling foliage, the latter en suite and encircled by a ridged steel band, trigger-guard pierced and engraved with flowering foliate scrollwork between chiselled acanthus, pierced baluster trigger, steel fore-end cap, and shortened wooden ramrod with turned and faceted baluster tip (some old rust patination, barrel possibly shortened, belt hook missing)
