With bright two-stage barrel turned at the girdle and with silver spider fore-sight, long octagonal breech with recessed maker's mark between six fleur-de-lys marks, plain border engraved tang, signed rounded lock with slender moulded border and engraved with the figure of Victory beneath the pan and with a further female figure on the tail, rounded border engraved cock (expertly repaired) chiselled with foliage terminating in a monster's head, chiselled and engraved steel, the bridle with a coiled monster, early 18th century figured moulded full stock (fore-stock mostly replaced), the butt flat along the bottom and carved with foliate scrolls around the barrel tang and on either side of the cheek-piece, iron mounts comprising side-plate pierced and chiselled with foliage inhabited by two seated figures blowing trumpets, crowned escutcheon pierced and chiselled with addorsed monsters each with foliate tail, butt-plate with long engraved slender tang and incised with old armoury number '197' on the heel, spur trigger-guard with pierced and chiselled foliate finial, scroll trigger, baluster ramrod-pipes, sling mounts, and horn-tipped wooden ramrod, probably original
