Footnotes

A SIGNED COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION OF THE AUTHOR'S FIRST BOOK, which featured Inspector Wexford.

Provenance: Patrick Lay, a financial journalist who in 1964 was working with Don Rendell, Ruth's husand, at the Daily Herald. They became close friends, "so much so that Don confided in Patrick when Ruth was negotiating her first publishing deal and had a celebratory drink together when it was signed... Don invited Patrick [and his family]... to call in for coffee one Sunday, and Ruth signed this copy on her dining table". A signed note of provenance from the vendor is included with the lot.
