CHURCHILL (WINSTON)

'Message from the Prime Minister', lithographed wartime poster appealing for the public to buy National War Bonds, incorporating a facsimile of a letter from Churchill on Downing Street headed notepaper, on an orange background, with a portrait of the Prime Minister upper right, 510 x 377, London, National Savings Committee, Edinburgh & Belfast, [c.1940]

Footnotes

RARE WARTIME CHURCHILL POSTER, issued by the National Savings Committee with the aim of raising funds for the war effort, the text for which had appeared in newspapers on 30 September 1940: "Our huge war expenditure can only in part be met from taxation; money from loans must therefore help to fill the gap. There is thus a double duty for every citizen, whether in private or in business life, of careful economy in expenditure and of lending the resulting savings to the State. One way of discharging this double duty is through the purchase of National War Bonds and I cordially wish the campaign every success".
