Footnotes

A nice set of these uniform reading editions edited by Dickens, issued as part of the 'Cheap and Uniform Editions of Mr. Dickens's Christmas Books' (as advertised on the rear wrappers). Eckel wrote that "in 1858, Bradbury and Evans printed special reading editions arranged by Dickens... each was a 16mo in size and uniformly bound in a green, pictorial paper wrapper. The scarcity of these little books have caused fairly high prices to prevail, particularly in America". Notes from Collis on additional brown paper wrappers indicate that five of the volumes were "cleaned etc. by Morrell, May 1936".
