Provenance
Acquired by the current owner from Philippe Vichot, Paris, 01 April 2014.
A stunning example of Italian furniture making, this giltwood console table demonstrates the intricacy and grandeur of Rococo furniture. The breche violette marble sits atop a serpentine front with curved sides. Quatre-leaved trellis and acanthus leaves span across the belt. Central to the belt is a floral bouquet within a cartouche. Four finely carved foliate-decorated cabriole and shell legs are topped by a large bouquet of flowers surmounted by a rocaille shell. They are joined together with an X-shaped stretcher centered by a rococo-motif spacer. Garlands, foliage, and drapery designs flow down the legs, ending with a volute.
