An East Greek pottery ibex-headed rhyton
Probably Phrygian, circa 8th-5th Century B.C.
Of conical form, terminating in the forequarters of a recumbent ibex with long, crescentic horns, a pouring hole between the bent forelegs, the white slip with red and brown painted decoration detailing the animal, the vessel decorated with a band of repeat trefoil leaf pattern and scrolling vines below the rim, the lower register decorated with stylised palm trees, 21cm high, mouth 12cm diam.
