Four Byzantine polychrome sgraffito ware vessels
Circa 12th-14th Century A.D.
Comprising three chalices with glazed decoration in ochre and green on cream, the tondos with sgraffito incised scroll motifs, with striped and zig-zag decorated rims, 14.2cm diam., 8cm high max.; and a bowl set on a ring foot, the interior with a cruciform motif with scroll terminals, 14cm diam. Such slipware vessels were made for domestic use and their sgraffito motifs were loosely based on more formally decorated Islamic metalwork of the same period.
