A RARE SCOTTISH GEORGE III PAINTED MAHOGANY MONEY CHEST, DATED 15TH JULY 1768

The hinged top and lockable frieze above a further recess fitted with a pull-out bank of six drawer, one painted with cash, the other bills the remainder with numbers three to six highlighted in gilt, the front painted with three shields, one depicting a coat of arms, one an animal tethered to a tree and in the central shield a castle above the inscription 'We of the Lothians did unite the lawdable [sic] scheme to prosecute with open hearts we sink our cash to help our bretheran in distress', raised on shaped bracket feet, 70cm wide, 49cm deep, 49.5cm high (27 1/2in wide, 19in deep, 19in high).
