A RARE OFFICER'S BRASS BASKET-HILTED SWORD
MID-LATE 18TH CENTURY

With tapering double-edged blade (some pitting overall) cut with a pair of narrow fullers along each side beyond the forte, the latter pierced with a small central hole, elaborate brass guard of slender bars forming open ovoidal panels (minor breaks) filled by triple cusped bars, and joined at the top by a ring beneath the pommel, globular brass pommel with three medial lines and flattened button, and old spirally-grooved leather-covered grip (old split) bound with a strand of twisted wire.
