A JACOBITE DECANTER AND MATCHING WINE GLASS

Circa 1770
The decanter of tapering form, engraved with monogram WB within a cartouche surmounted by a bird and flanked by foliate sprays, and to the reverse with a honeysuckle spray, with facetted disc stopper 30.5cm high, with wineglass en suite engraved with the 'stricken oak',
the glass 12cm high. (2)

Footnotes

The 'stricken oak' shows the stock of a dead oak tree with a vigorous young sapling springing from the roots. The new sapling is thought to represent the anticipated second restoration of the Stuarts.
