A Flintlock D.B. Sporting Gun
By Ross, Edinburgh, No. 56, Circa 1815

With twist sighted barrels each with dirty bores, recessed patent breeches engraved with foliage between and each with rectangular gold-lined mark stamped with a crown and 'Ross Patent', gold line and platinum-lined touch-hole, tang engraved with symmetrical foliage, signed border engraved flat bevelled locks each decorated with foliage involving a drum and with a small trophy on the stepped tail, foliate engraved cocks, rainproof pans, and border engraved steels each with a roller acting against a ramp on the steel-spring, figured half-stock with chequered grip (worn and with old bruising overall), border engraved steel butt-plate and trigger-guard, the former decorated with a martial trophy and foliage on the tang, the latter retaining some blueing on the inside and with a further trophy on the bow, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, silver rear ramrod-pipe en suite, vacant silver escutcheon and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and original brass-mounted ramrod (tip repaired), Birmingham proof marks
74.3 cm.
