4to (268 x 196 mm). 73 engraved numbered plates only, all trimmed to plate and mounted on thick card leaves, 2 per page, with supplied engraved portrait of the artist. Early 20th-century morocco-backed marbled paper boards, later rebacked, with spine laid-down.

Rare and important suite of engravings of Michelangelo's frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. This work was made for students to study the anatomy of models, with plates engraved by the Mantuan artist Giovanni Battista de Rossi. The plate counts vary in reference sources between 72 and 74. Bartsch XV, 426; Brunet I, 1393.
