MASSA, NICCOLO. 1485-1569.

Anatomiae liber introductorius, in quo quamplurimae partes, actiones, atque utilitates humani corporis.... Venice: J. Zilleti, 1559.
4to (200 x 141 mm). Modern half vellum and marbled boards. Title re-margined at gutter, scattered spotting, minor soiling to vellum.

SECOND EDITION, a re-issue of the 1536 edition, with only 4 leaves re-set. The colophon still bears the 1536 date. The first edition provided a generation of surgeons with a brief and concise textbook of anatomy. The publication of Colombo's treatise in 1559 gave it competition for relevance, which may be the reason Massa chose to re-issue his book essentially unchanged in the same year. Durling 2984; Stillwell Awakening, IV, 676.
