The 'Wallace Cut' was invented by Wallace Chan in 1987, a technique that combines the methods of medieval cameo and intaglio carvings into three-dimensional engravings, to create reflective illusions of an image in transparent materials. The technique unifies these features using precise calculations and angle casting resulting in the multiple reflection effects. This unprecedented carving technology was honoured with the Hong Kong Jewellery Design Grand Award. It is this unique, unconventional carving method that affirmed Wallace Chan's status as a master sculptor.
