A PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE ROCOCO SHELL-SHAPED TUREENS, COVERS AND STANDS

Qianlong
Each of asymmetrical form with the lobed bodies terminating in classic scrolls forming one handle, the domed covers similarly terminating with a scroll forming the other handle, the body and cover each attractively enamelled with loose floral bouquets, divided by scattered smaller blossoms, the covers surmounted by gilded berry finials, each on matching stands similarly decorated and moulded with scallop-shaped patterns in low relief. The tureens 27cm (10 5/8in) wide. (6).

The double-shell shape of the present tureens is based on a model by Joshua Wedgwood which was itself inspired by a Sevres model, to which Wedgwood added a double-shell cover. Compare with a similar double-shell tureen, cover and stand, with arms attributed to Francisco Piar y Lottyn, Qianlong circa 1773, illustrated by R.Diaz, Chinese Armorial Porcelain for Spain, London, 2010, pp.230-231, no.33. Another double-shell tureen, cover and stand, with the arms of Pedro III, mid 18th century, in the Castle of Queluz, Portugal, is illustrated by M.Beurdeley, Porcelain of the East India Companies, London, 1962, p.71, pl.xv.

Buyers' Premium and Charges

Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
