AN IMPERIAL BLUE-GROUND RECTANGULAR KESI 'LOTUS' PURSE

18th/19th century
Finely woven in gold and multi-coloured threads with a central Shou character enclosed within scrolling acanthus leaves, beneath a bat and above a blossoming yellow lotus issuing from the terrestrial diagram rising from rolling waves and a lishui border, suspending two blue tassels and a silk hoop for attachment, the interior lined pink with two compartments to carry a personal ritual possession like a small scroll. The purse 13cm (5 1/8in) long.
