A Mamluk silver-inlaid brass basin
Egypt, Syria or possibly Sana, 14th/ 15th Century

of cylindrical form with wide flaring rim and rounded base, the interior with a band of inscriptions in thuluth with medallions containing geometric motifs, all on a ground of floral vines, two bands of undulating vegetal motifs around the rim, the exterior with lobed medallions containing foliate motifs alternating with inscription-filled cartouches in thuluth
44 cm. diam.
