Provenance
Private UK collection.
While there are strong Persian elements to the maiden's dress (notably the boots), it may also be seen as an interpretation of European 17th Century clothing: compare a painting of a maiden with a wine bottle and cup, in a similar hat, cape and boots in the British Museum, dated to the 18th Century (once part of an album, inv. no. 1920, 0917,0.13).
