A tiger-hilted steel sword, probably made for the armoury of Tipu Sultan
Mysore, late 18th Century

the double-edged steel blade of curved form with flattened spine to upper part of inner curve, the pommel in the form of a snarling tiger's head with its tongue extended and ears erect, engraved bubri motifs to grip, the quillons addorsed with two smaller tiger's heads flanking a tiger head at the forte, the scabbard clad entirely in velvet
