Footnotes
The Battle of Sholangur, or Sholinghur, not far to the west of Madras, was fought between Mysore forces under Haider Ali, and troops of the East India Company under General Eyre Coote. The Mysore troops were taken by surprise and sustained heavy losses, driving them out of the Carnatic.
